We had our last concert tonight in Allmersbach at the Allmersbach Church of God. This morning, we sang at Crossroads International Church currently holding services on the European Theological Seminary's campus. The church congregation was very receptive and responded very well to the music. In all of our eleven concerts there have been several individuals come to know Christ as their Savior. All of our concerts have gone very well, but more importantly, the Lord's presence has settled in our midst and done great and mighty things.
We sang in Freudenstradt at the public market square in the middle of the city last night. It is estimated that there were about 1,000 people reached in this concert, most of whom were not from the hosting church body. The host church, Crossroads International Church, set up a table at the concert with free Bibles and information about the church and by the end of the night, all of the Bibles had been taken. The church was very pleased with the turn out and the choir got the chance to sing in a public market square, doing ministry in a very non-traditional way. It was the experience of a lifetime.
Tomorrow, we will go to Strassburg, France with some of the students from ETS. Everyone is looking forward to the experience. Please continue to pray for the choir as we travel for the remainder of the tour, and finally home to the US. While our concerts are finished for the tour, our ministry is not. We have all learned a lot about what it really means to be a living reflection of God's love on this tour. Our ministry has not only been through our singing, but also through our interaction with our hosts and those interactions may be some of the most important for our witness. UPDATE May 14, 2009
The Lee Singers are in Hoenfels! The first performance was on the US Military Base in Baumholder. The base had several troops returning from Iraq during this time and it was a good time for the choir to be there to minister to the families and soldiers who came to the service. The group had a huge success in Kaiserslautern and Rammstein. The public concert in Rammstein was wonderful and there were several people who came to know Christ through the concert. The Lee Singers participated in a feeding ministry with the World Outreach Center in Kaiserslautern with senior pastor Phil Burton, who is a Lee University alum. The ministry went into local areas that had been identified by the Outreach Center as areas of poverty and need. We not only brought food to the residents, but also sang several songs in the street for all to hear. After the morning participation with the ministry, the choir went to visit a historic castle, Burg Lichtenberg. The time at the castle was a lot of fun and very beautiful. On the two nights in Kaiserslautern, the students stayed in host homes provided by the church. This was a great experience for the students, and all will have stories to tell upon return to the US.
Tonight, the choir is singing on the US Military Base in Hoenfels. The service was a wonderful time of worship for both the choir and the congregation of servicemen on the base. The senior pastor, Military Chaplain Herman Mitchell, has a daughter currently at Lee and he was very pleased with the service. He will also be hosting the Lee Singers on a US Military Base in Grafenwoehr tomorrow night.
Things are very different in Germany. Simple things like toilet paper and meal portion sizes are seemingly insignificant… until they drastically change. Many of us have become incredibly aware of the cultural differences between the US and Germany, and have even been inspired to make changes in our personal lives based on some of those differences. We’re all learning bits and pieces of the German language... so “Auf Wiedersehen!” (good-bye) for now! Look for more posts soon...

Dachau Concentration Camp
The Lee Singers will be stopping at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial and Museum in travel to Munich in the final days of the trip. This will be one of the most important parts of the tour because of its historical significance. In March 1933, Dachau was chosen as the first site for a concentration camp, originally created for political prisoners, not long after Adolf Hitler became Reich Chancellor. It was one of the first concentration camps to be made and served as the model for all other later camps. In its twelve years of activity, over 200,000 prisoners came through the camp from all over Europe, and over 43,000 of those prisoners died. On April 20, 1945, American troops liberated the camp and its survivors. Now stands a museum and memorial in the very place where thousands lost their lives. Pictured here is the memorial that has been crafted in remembrance of those that suffered and died in Dachau. The twisted metal resembles the barbed wire that surrounded the camp and images of captives are tangled within the wire.

Activities of Involvement
The Lee University Singers will be traveling to Germany May 10-22. The trip is designed with the purpose of ministry and cultural exchange. We will be visiting several cities including Frankfurt, Freudenstadt, Grafenwoehr, Allmersbach, Dachau and Munich. The three days in Freudenstadt is where the students will have the chance to interact with students and faculty at the European Theological Seminary (ETS). During this time, the Lee Singers will be housed in host homes and will have the opportunity to fellowship with these German students on a day to day basis as well as a joint trip to Strasburg, France. Singers will be giving a public concert in the Freudenstadt Public Market Square, the largest market square in Germany, as well as worship services in German Pentecostal churches Freudenstadt and Allmersbach on Sunday, May 17. The final three days will be spent in Munich for students to explore the city and culture individually. On the trip from Freudenstadt to Munich, Singers will be visiting the concentration camp in Dachau.
This trip will give each student the ability to experience another culture both as a minister and as a student. The trip meets the university’s requirements for an individually arranged cross-cultural experience, and while not all students are seeking GST 250 credit, those who are will have well over the required amount of time to gather the information necessary to complete the program. At this point, we will not be hiring a translator for any of the tour, so there will be a language barrier, but with the help of the ETS and its students, we will have the opportunity to interact with the culture despite our language differences. Germany operates their economy on the Euro, so there will be a significant difference in monetary exchange while on this tour. Although we will be performing on the tour, when we are not performing during the day we will be taking several excursions into the cities and to culturally significant sites. These include castles, museums, and other historical locations determined by our hosts. During that travel time, we will be eating in German restaurants, traveling by public transport, and interacting within the German culture. Also, for five of the eleven nights, we have secured German host homes as housing for the students. This will provide the students the opportunity to learn about the German culture, gain a better understanding of it, and build relationships these families.
The Lee University Singers have a long history of international travel. One of the core values of the Lee Singers is learning from and respecting other cultures. This trip will enhance that value.

This is a blog designed specifically for the Lee Singers International Tour to Germany in May of 2009. The blog will be updated with information about the tour and its outcome. Having a separate blog from the Lee Singers' blog will allow us to concentrate our attention on just the tour itself and information about it rather than being mixed in with updates about the choir outside of the tour. Photos, videos, and personal testimonies will be posted here before, during, and after the tour. Our hope is that this blog will be both a blessed voice of those experiencing the tour, as well as an entertaining account of the adventures associated with this trip. Germany Tour
As many of you know, the Lee University Singers will be traveling to Germany in May of 2009. Our mission for the tour is to minister to the US servicemen stationed on military bases in Germany. We will be visiting many different cities in Germany and three very large military bases. We will also be singing in several churches and other public venues durig our visit. The Lee Singers are so priviledged to have the opportunity to share God's love with the men who protect our country and stand to defend our nation. We are working closely with the Church of God Ministry to the Military to make this possible.
Due to the state of our economy and the global financial crisis that looms over us, there have been many obstacles in the preparation for this tour, but God has been faithful in providing us with the means to make this tour a reality. Now, each student must raise $2000 to cover the cost of their trip. We are fundraising through donation letters to our friends and family members, and the choir has been richly blessed thus far. However, there are still many students that are in need of financial blessing. If you, or someone you know, would like to donate to the Lee Singers for this tour, please contact Dr. Brad Moffett at bmoffett@leeuniversity.edu. We believe that God will provide that which we need for this tour.
